Burn, baby burn!

4 02 2009

Many people talk about the benefits of a cardiovascular activity (and I won’t even dream of disagreeing, because yes, it is extremely important), however, sometimes, we miss out on the muscle-building side of the equation.

Strengthening, toning, building muscles – whatever you want to call it – will burn more calories at rest. Period. Bigger muscles use more calories, every hour of every day – while you sleep, while you watch TV, and while you type. So, if you’re looking for additional ways to use those calories while eating the same amount, try ensuring your workout includes some strength training.

And ladies, you’ll never get bulky by lifting weights. Trust me.

how are you getting on, I want to do this stuff but life overwhelms me and then I take the easy option (way out) and regret it. Do I just have to put some iron into my will power?

Being ‘older’ it is s-o-o-o much harder – those rolls of fat due to lack of progesterone and oestrogen make my life a misery – I used to be as thin as Twiggy up ’til about the age of 40!!

I know, I know – more pounds look better when you are older but even allowing for that, I’m w-a-a-a-y overweight!

Yes, it can be difficult to get started.. afterall , most people have trouble with change, so don’t kick yourself for the past. Kick yourself for the present, for the right now. If you want it, go out and get it. Do something about it. First thing I’d recommend is to try a whole bunch of different things to see what you might like to do. If you want this for the long term, you have to ensure you’re enjoying it, otherwise, you’ll find all sorts of reasons not to.

I’ve also stopped posting here at Fitness and instead have started reposting some of these at my main blog, Answer Starts With You. Just do a search for fitness on my blog. Did you read this one?
